Charles Markessini

Charles Markessini was born in 1979 in Thessaloniki, north Greece. He earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2002. For his final thesis, he focused on the design of a pilot unit for the production of urea-formaldehyde resins under continuous flow conditions. In 2007, he completed a two-year Master’s program in Applied Informatics, with a specialization in Computer Systems, at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. His final thesis subject was the “Application of artificial intelligence techniques in the field of aminoplastic resins for the production of composite wood panels”. Since June 2005, he has been employed by CHIMAR, an industrial R&D company based in Thessaloniki, Greece. CHIMAR specializes in providing technologies for the production of resins and chemicals, as well as their application in the wood-based panel industry. Charles Markessini currently serves as the R&D Vice President of CHIMAR. His responsibilities include overseeing and managing field R&D projects, as well as supervising the industrial production of binders based on formaldehyde, melamine, phenol, urea or bio-based, and application of them in the manufacturing of composite wood panels (such as particleboard, MDF, plywood, OSB) and laminating papers. He is the author and co-author of several scientific publications and presentations at international conferences, and he is also a co-inventor of patents within the field. He is fluent in English, French, and Portuguese while he speaks German and Spanish.
